CAN-SPAM
The foundational piece of legislation that determines specific rules for email marketing messages vs. spam. Fairly toothless, but good guidance to follow.
Instituted in 2003 by the United States Congress, stands for Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act of 2003 (CAN-SPAM Act). Important to know but more recent legislation like CASL and GDPR has a bigger impact on current email marketing practices.
